COMMUNITY BASED INITIATIVES
Our philosophy is to build long-term relationships with our client’s based on trust through assisting our client’s to make informed decisions that will improve their competitiveness and longevity in a cost effective manner.
In South Africa we are blessed with human potential. We believe that we can contribute to the unleashment of this potential and build capacity into organisations to achieve success through the application of well researched legal advice, quality and knowledgeable representation.
At Hughes-Madondo Incorporated we are also committed to community based initiatives, which includes inter alia, the following:
- The Wentworth Victim Friendly Centre – founded in 2004 by a group of 10 women as a result of growing concern for crime in Wentworth, Durban and the surrounding areas. The Centre was originally created to assist only battered women and abused children, but has since become involved with counselling and providing emotional support to victims of violence, drugs and alcohol abuse, and those infected with the Aids virus. Hughes-Madondo Incorporated passionately assisted the Centre and victims with seasoned legal advice, counselling and support.
- Edith Benson Babies Home – a facility founded in 1946 and located in the heart of Durban which cares for children between birth and five years of age, many of whom have special needs and suffer from illnesses such as HIV/AIDS. Hughes-Madondo Incorporated as part of a celebration of Women’s Day initiated to sponsor the facility and took time to visit and engage with the children and staff of the Home. We provided meals, medication, infant toiletries and baby essentials for an extended period of time. The staff complement of Hughes-Madondo Incorporated also volunteered and stepped into the role of the staff of the facility to ensure that their daily responsibilities and duties were attended to, thus ensuring that the staff were able to spend time relaxing in order to rejuvenate them for their continued quality time with the children of the Home.
- ProBono.Org – this non-profit organisation has now opened its doors in Durban with the main objective being provision of access to justice for all people and probono legal representation. Hughes-Madondo Incorporated has been an active participant in the continued support of the organisation ensuring that those without the necessary resources have access to justice. We at Hughes-Madondo Incorporated have assisted in Immigration and Refugee Law, Family Law including Maintenance enquiries, the Wills and Estates projects, and Labour issues including CCMA, Labour Court, High Court and general Civil Litigation. We value our position as service providers within this forum and moreover in a society where access to justice is often not provided to the indigent. We create awareness about both basic and complex legal principles and policies to the public and provide legal representation to often indigent people who seek legal assistance from this forum. We have formulated relationships with the Legal Resources Centre, Lawyers for Human Rights and the Lindela Repatriation Centre which have proved beneficial to the people we assist through the auspices of ProBono.Org.
